The summit showed that the active inclusion of Russia in the renewal process will help accelerate the transformation of educational policy both in the scales of individual territories, and at the global level. With the maximum activity of the participating countries, noticeable positive changes can be expected within the next 2-3 years.

Moscow, Russia, November 8, 2017 - The summit, organized for the first time in Russia by the initiative of the Global Education Leaders` Partnership (GELP), and was devoted to the topic "Education for a complex world: why, what and how to teach in the 21st century". About 70 experts in the field of education from 12 countries, including leading Russian specialists, took part in it. Prior to this, representatives of our country did not act as speakers of GELP.

The significance of the GELP Summit

Speaking about the significance of the summit, co-founder and co-chairman of GELP Valerie Hannon stressed: "Russia occupies a strategic position in the geopolitical structure. The educational system here is historically based on the experience of educators and psychologists that are recognized all over the world. In Russia there is a large number of innovators aimed at finding partners and exchanging ideas at the global level, and since GELP promotes these processes, we decided to hold a meeting of education leaders here. We have seen Russia's impressive progress in introducing innovations, including with the participation of the business community and non-profit associations. We saw how the digital revolution affects the educational process in the country. And we are aimed at expanding cooperation with Russia in the course of further transformations at the world level. "

The relevance of the GELP Summit is conditioned by the fact that before modern society, and therefore before education, there are global challenges. The rapidly growing processes of digitalization and automation lead to dramatic changes in the labor market, the socioeconomic environment is becoming increasingly turbulent, environmental instability on the planet is increasing, and it is important to prepare the younger generation for a full life in this complex world.

Over the past 10 years, GELP has organized 14 summits and conferences that have had a powerful stimulating effect on the development of educational innovations in the host country and in many other countries.

Partnership in the development of education

The summit covered a lot of significant topics, with reports and panel discussions allocated to no more than a quarter of the time, the rest is the group work of experts. And the results once again showed that for the formation of the personality of the new time in the process of learning and development, the joint efforts of all participants of the educational environment are required.

"The challenges facing modern society, and hence education, are global. They are not solved by the efforts of just a one country. The GELP Alliance is an example of a successful format of intercountry cooperation in the educational sphere, so we supported the summit. We understand that changes in education should be aimed primarily at shaping the personality of a new time - a complex person. These changes imply the cooperation of all stakeholders: the state, business, education system, informal projects, content producers, "commented Julia Chechet, Executive Director of the Sberbank Charity Fund" Contribution to the Future ". Since 2015, the Fund has been participating in the creation of an ecosystem that contributes to the development of modern education that meets the challenges of the 21st century.

Involving the business community

The Russian experience presented at the summit confirmed the effectiveness of the participation of non-profit associations and businesses in the creation of a modern educational ecosystem. And some of the developments of our NGOs were already in demand abroad. In particular, the prototype of the Russian Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) will soon be implemented in Vietnam and Malaysia.

"The time has come when the global business should think about what social contribution it brings, and philanthropic organizations should be able to earn. "Rybakov Foundation" will help attract entrepreneurs to Russian educational projects in order to increase their number, increase the efficiency of using available financial resources and increase their inflow. Another important activity is the involvement of school graduates in the development of the school community environment, as this increases the level of confidence of the parents of the students in the educational institution and its teachers, "said Igor Rybakov, co-founder and member of the Rybakov Fund. - The institute of mentoring plays an important role in this work, it appeared relatively recently in Russia, it has not yet been formed in many countries, and it is necessary to support investors in the implementation of new projects. And the resource center mentoring, such as ASI, perfectly suits as a prototype. So Russia is embarking on a real export of its intellectual initiative. "

Directions for improving the educational system

The participants of the summit noted that it is extremely important to instill in children the skills of the project approach and to develop their adaptive capabilities. At the same time, it is necessary to support not only students with high motivation, but also those who are lagging behind, since with serious attention from teachers and psychologists they have every chance to become successful. In this regard, a personalized approach to learning is becoming increasingly important.

"Now the world is changing so rapidly that it is difficult to predict what skills graduates of secondary school should have in 11 years. Therefore, the need to support the child's activity, to develop interest in cognition and ability to adapt easily to changes, comes to the forefront, "said Alexander Brychkin, general director of the Russian Textbook Corporation. - The variability and personification of education play a big role in this. And as studies show, Russian teachers are aware of the importance of these principles, in particular, in the choice of curricula, as well as the teaching materials that we develop for schools. "

The system of assessing students' knowledge needs to be changed. The new assessment systems should reflect not only the result of the training, but also the motivation of the student, should show the uniqueness of each child and encourage him to further development - that is what, according to the participants of the GELP Summit, teachers, heads of educational institutions and regulators of the education system need to take into account.

"Also, when transforming the education system, you need to give more voice to the students, more opportunities for choice, more responsibility in the classroom, in school, in society. Teachers need to prepare children for this, because the new education will be much more branched, forming a student's independence, - said Pavel Luksha, founder of Global Education Futures (GEF), a professor at the Moscow School of Management Skolkovo. - As for the role of the state, one of its main tasks is connected with the transition to the so-called complex management of the system, where the state plays the leading role - sets standards, assesses the quality of the system, and at the same time maintains a distributed partnership with business, investors, parents and urban communities that can often begin to implement the necessary improvements faster than the state. The new education system is more complex than the current one, so a productive dialogue of all participants is needed, and during the summit a number of models were discussed for its implementation. "

Summing up the summit, the head of the Center for Strategic Research Alexei Kudrin said that education should be treated as a sphere that seriously affects economic growth and the success of the country, therefore education should be seen "as an important institution for investment in our future." And if we do not do this today, then Russia will lose that status of a scientific, technological power, which is still there.

At the end of the summit, the participants will form a report, which in Russia will become a package of applied recommendations for the Administration of the President and the Government of the Russian Federation on the development of schooling until 2025. Access to this document will also appear in the professional community. A Russian version of the "road map" of the main points of entry of Russian educational projects into the global community (including opportunities for exporting educational innovations and cooperation) will also be created.

The official operator of the GELP Summit in Russia was Global Venture Alliance, an international company with sites in Silicon Valley and Moscow, which is a private innovative ecosystem that unites acceleration programs for startups, various educational initiatives, and invests in creating an innovative environment.
